With Sueno KICKED OUT as DILG Secretary, Asec Densing joins YELLOW MAFIA

Schools, hospitals near West Valley Fault

Some key facilities in Metro Manila and surrounding provinces may be affected if a magnitude-7.2 earthquake strikes along the West Valley Fault. Know what they are.

MANILA, Philippines – The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) recently released high resolution maps that allow people to see the location of the West Valley Fault and East Valley Fault at street level.

The fault, which traverses various parts of Metro Manila and surrounding provinces, is expected to greatly affect the country since the region is not only highly populated, it also hosts the seat of government and the country’s business capital.

What critical facilities are near the fault line?

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) earlier said there are no public buildings along the 5-meter zone of active fault lines in the metro – a measurement recommended by Phivolcs.

Rappler scanned the West Valley Fault Atlas to check for schools, hospitals, military installations, prominent neighborhoods, and utilities that appear to be located within 500 meters to one kilometer from the fault.

Based on a scan of the Phivolcs atlas, the elevated U-turn slots along C-5, for example, seem to be practically on top of the West Valley Fault near Makati and Taguig.

This list is not exhaustive. We selected relevant sections of the Atlas which show the locations of the institutions concerned.

Preparing for the ‘Big One’

On ANC’s Headstart, Phivolcs Director Renato Solidum identified 6 schools which either have buildings transected by the West Valley Fault or are in the buffer zone.

They are:

  1. Sitio Karahume Elementary School in San Jose Del Monte, Bulacan
  2. Barangka Elementary School in Marikina City
  3. Tibagan Elementary School in Makati City
  4. Anne-Claire Montessori in Taguig City
  5. Alabang Elementary School in Muntinlupa City
  6. E. Pedro Diaz High School in Muntinlupa City

Solidum said buildings in affected areas may be used as storage spaces but must not be used for classes or offices as that would be tantamount to “gambling” with the lives of students and teachers.

Earlier studies conducted by the Phivolcs indicate that, should a magnitude-7.2 earthquake strike along the West Valley Fault, the entire Metro Manila and surrounding provinces could be affected. (See simulation maps on this story: What dangers await when the West Valley Fault moves?)

To prepare for an earthquake, Phivolcs also advised residents and building administrators to make sure their structures strictly adhere to the building code and are retrofitted accordingly. Communities and families are also advised to prepare their respective evacuation and survival plans. – Rappler.com

Biased Mainstream Media: Duterte INUPAKAN muli ang ABS CBN at Inquirer

Duterte slams two media companies over reporting

March 30, 2017

President Rodrigo Duterte on Thursday mouthed invectives against two media companies for alleged unfair reporting.

“Alam mo ang Inquirer kahapon, talagang bulls— ang p— ina niya, basura talaga ‘yan pati ‘yung eleksyon na ganyan. The poor will be killed. Tignan mo mag-slant. Ewan ko ba but someday—hindi ko tinatakot but someday ‘yung karma dadating ‘yan,” Duterte said after administering the oath of the new officers of the Philippine Councilors’ League.

“Talagang mga walanghiya ang p— inang journalista na ‘yan. Sabihin ko sa inyo talagang walanghiya pati ‘yung ABS-CBN. Because if I have the money p— ina ninyo. Nandiyan na ako sa gobyerno ngayon and you can request any son of a b— there sa central bank. Tell them to get a statement, bakit ako magbigay sa kalaban ko?” he added.

“If there is a really a 200 million sa account ko, I will resign tomorrow, ‘yan ang hamon ko sa lahat. And if my children would get involved in corruption, I will gladly step down. ‘Yan ang totoo mga Inquirer, mga bulls— kayo pati ‘yung ABS-CBN. Basura ‘yung inano ninyo. Dapat may magsabi sa inyo ngayon p— ina ninyo, sinobrahan ninyo ang kalokohan ninyo.”

Duterte also accused the two firms that they were paid to publish stories during the elections.

“Kay Inquirer, you’ve never been fair. I know that it’s supposed to be antagonistic but fair? Bastos kayo. Pati ABS-CBN bastos, bastos talaga,” he said.

“Kasi alam nila without checking the veracity of—the truth about… ‘Pag eleksyon na pera-pera na eh. Kung sino ang makabayad ng pera, iyon ang i-publish nila,” he added.

Duterte also lashed out at the Prieto family and the Lopez family, which own Inquirer and ABS-CBN, respectively, calling them oligarchs.

“Kaya itong mga mayayaman akala mo mga honest ito, mga respected members of society. Mukhang pera ‘yang mga p— ina ‘yan. Sa totoo. Kaya ilang mga tao they’re very, kasi may-ari ng newspaper, may-ari ng baka atakihin siya,” he said.

“It’s the corrupt media, ‘yung mukha ng mukha nila Prieto pati Lopez ng pera at ‘yang simbahan. The oligarchs of this country. May enjoyment sila one percent only panahon pa ni Cory Aquino hanggang dumating na lang sa akin,” he added.

This was not the first time that Duterte lashed out at the said media companies, with the President previously slamming them for their reporting about his alleged bank accounts exposed by Senator Antonio Trillanes IV during the campaign period.

Taking exception

In a statement, Inquirer executive editor Jose Ma. Nolasco said the newspaper took exception to Duterte’s remarks.

“Even as we’ve courageously pursued the truth in our coverage, we’ve endeavored to get the administration’s side of any controversy,” he said, noting that the newspaper runs a column titled “View from the Palace” allowing Duterte administration officials to write about policy and personality matters.

GMA News Online has reached out to ABS-CBN for comment.

The National Union of Journalists of the Philippines, meanwhile, slammed Duterte for his pronouncements, describing them as “not only unwarranted, it was absolutely twisted.”

“Mawalang-galang subali’t napakalinaw na kayo po, at hindi sila, ang bastos. It was a brazen abuse of your immense power as chief executive of this land and only shows how little, if any, appreciation you have of democracy and governance,” it said.

“It is a mindset of the petty tyrant who mistakenly believes public office is an entitlement that allows you to flaunt the laws of the land that both grant you power and ensure the checks that prevent you from abusing that power.”

The group added that it would not expect an apology from Duterte, but said his pronouncements wouldn’t stop journalists “from fulfilling our duty to inform the people as best we can of what is happening to our country, whether you agree with what we report or not.” —NB/JST,  GMA News

Duterte: Catholic Church to be ‘passé’ in 30 years

catholic du30

Note: Altar of Secrets book (available in Popular Bookstore, Scout Morato, Quezon City and Fully Booked branches) previously endorsed by President Duterte

TIME TICKING? President Rodrigo Duterte on Thursday renewed his tirades against the Roman Catholic Church, saying the over 2,000-year-old institution will no longer be relevant in 30 years.

“That religion will become a passé in the next 30 years. Lalong lalabas na ang mga abuses nila,” Duterte said in a speech before newly appointed public officials.

The President went on to fire sweeping accusations of wrongdoings against members of the clergy.

“Itong mga pari, numero uno rin iyan. Sige lang kolekta, sigeng kolekta, may second collection pa. Tapos iyung sa amin doon, ang asawa niya andoon sa NHA, nagdadala ng grocery. P***** i**** pari ito, leche,” he said.

Duterte added that priests are among the “oligarchs” that “ail Philippine society.”

Catholic Church leaders have opposed Duterte’s anti-narcotics crackdown and his push for the revival of capital punishment, lowering of the age for criminal liability, and implementation of the Reproductive Health Law.

Duterte: Self-confessed RISK TAKER Delima has ONE MORE ADMISSION TO MAKE

Senator Leila De Lima, in JAIL for DRUG CHARGES for more than a month now is showing signs of LONELINESS, DESOLATION and DESPERATION. Gone is her COMBATIVE and FIERY manner as she has turned to introspection and rationalization on why she landed in PRISON. She claims to be a RISK TAKER and that she took the chance of public ridicule when she admitted to an affair with her driver – bodyguard.  She did not say, however, that the rumor mill was already rife with such talk and witnesses had already gone public with the information. Continued DENIAL would have exposed her as a LIAR.  In the face of overwhelming evidence, ADMIT. She rambles on that she took a chance in running for the Senate on meager resources but there was no real risk in doing what many aspiring politicians have tried to do. Many lost in the elections but a few got elected anyway. She admits to taking the risk of investigating the Davao Death Squad when she was the Justice Secretary and when now Philippine President Rody Duterte was still a city mayor. There was not much risk to that since nobody could have predicted a Presidential run for Digong and a forthcoming SMASHING VICTORY at that.

In other words, De Lima is on an ADMISSION spree. Admit this and ADMIT that. The only issue she has to address is whether she RISKED SOLICITING and TAKING DRUG MONEY to fund her senatorial campaign. In the FINAL ANALYSIS, ADMITTING to being a DRUG PROTECTOR in exchange for MILLIONS of pesos is the only significant ADMISSION she would ever have to make in her life. She can then be free of a GUILTY CONSCIENCE and take her chances with the judicial system. A GUILTY PLEA can be used to haggle for a shorter sentence. A DENIAL PLEA has no risks, many criminals do it all the time. If she is really a RISK TAKER, why can she not TELL THE TRUTH and just accept the consequences of her DASTARDLY DEEDS. There is a Biblical saying that “The TRUTH shall set us free”.  While this may not mean freedom from JAIL in the case of the Senator, in a philosophical way, stating the TRUTH, the WHOLE TRUTH and NOTHING BUT the TRUTH could mean a good night’s sleep for De Lima (while still in PRISON, of course).

De Lima reflects on risks she took: ‘No regrets’
By: Maila Ager – Reporter / @MAgerINQ

INQUIRER.net  March 30, 2017

When she publicly admitted her past relationship with former driver Ronnie Dayan, detained Senator Leila de Lima knew that people would not understand her and judge her negatively.

But she had no regrets, De Lima said.

After being in detention for more than a month now, the senator has realized the many risks that she has taken that eventually landed her in jail.

De Lima was arrested and detained at Camp Crame last February 24 for her alleged involvement in illegal drugs.

“I’m a risk taker. I’ve always been,” she said in a hand-written note dated March 28, 2017.

“I believe in honesty and authenticity. I abhor superficiality, pretensions and hypocrisy. What you see is what you get,” the senator said.

She said she took a risk when she ran for the Senate during the 2016 May elections “despite very meager resources” and her “vulnerability to retaliation or vendetta from powerful personalities who might have felt “wronged by my official actions in previous capacities.”

De Lima was justice secretary before she won a seat in the Senate.

At the Senate, she said, she took a risk when she initiated a Senate inquiry on the spate of killings of suspected drug offenders “ignoring the contrary advice of well-meaning friends who deemed such initiative of mine as suicidal” given President Rodrigo Duterte’s high popularity and “patent intolerance to dissent.”

“I took a risk when I publicly admitted a previous relationship, knowing that people would not understand it and would thus judge me negatively about such episode in my personal life,” De Lima said.

She was apparently referring to Dayan, whom she earlier admitted having an affair with.

Like De Lima, Dayan was also arrested and detained for alleged drug links.

“I took a risk when, rather than heeding suggestions to seek political asylum in a foreign country, I chose to face head-on my persecution and consequent illegal arrest, boldly proclaiming to the whole world that I’m honored to be a prisoner under this repressive regime,” she said.

“No regrets. Being honest with oneself is far better than losing one’s soul,” the senator added.

De Lima has repeatedly denied allegations that she was in anyway involved in the illegal drug trade. IDL/rga
